ROB SUTTON
HOW TO CREATE A STUNNING YET SIMPLE LANDSCAPE
This is an ideal workshop for both beginners and experienced artists: a practical approach to landscape painting, colour mixing and paint application. "My landscapes attempt to look at a surrealistic view with specific attention to composition - the foreground, middle distance and sky. The subject matter is arranged to provoke your imagination to ask 'what lies over the hill?' Emphasis is on cloud structure and cropping to create a peaceful, contemplative mood and scene.
Rob has been a practising artist for 30 years. His background is in publishing as an illustrator for Woman's Day and The Bulletin. He has taught illustration, design, portraiture and drawing at TAFE. He exhibits regularly, and has one several regional art prizes. Acquisitions include Tweed Valley Regional Art Gallery.

NICHOLAS HARDING
FIGURE IN THE LANDSCAPE
"The human figure is the form with which we can most empathise. After all, we inhabit the figure and all have our own understanding of what it is to live with this mortal sack of blood, muscle and bone."
In this workshop we begin by engaging with the human form through drawing the figure in open air poses so as to comprehend the figure in natural light. From these drawings we will then explore the nature of the figure in context. Colour, form, shape and composition will be explored to create a 'figure in the landscape' painting in the participant’s distinctive style.Bring drawings, photos of coastal landscape (beach, sand, rocks etc) to use with the previous day's life drawing.
Nicholas has been an Archibald finalist every year since 1994: He won the Archibald Prize in 2001, was highly commended in 1998 and 2005, also winning People’s Choice 2005. He has had regular solo exhibitions in Sydney since 1992, as well as London. He has been represented in numerous group shows including the Dobell Drawing Prize, which he won in 2001, the Wynne and the Sulman Prizes, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, and the Kedumba Drawing Award. His work is held in a number of Australian collections including the Art Gallery of NSW.

IAN PEARSON
UNDERSTANDING COLOUR AND ITS APPLICATION - Classical to Modernist
The Art of Da Vinci, Picasso or Brett Whitely consists of a formula (schemata). In this workshop students will learn, using oil or acrylic, to construct a palette derived from this formula that has applications for life study, landscape, still life or abstraction.
This rarely taught study is needed to create harmony in our work. Students will learn to build sound structural and tonal drawings and be tutored in lighting effects and the practice of colour theory.
Ian imparts his wealth of knowledge in a fun and accessible way. He has been teaching for 30 years, presently at Lismore TAFE. His work is held at the National Gallery in Canberra and also in numerous public and private collections in Australia and overseas. Ian has won many prizes and exhibited throughout Australia.

NITZA FLANZ
CONNECTIVE ARTMAKING
When art deeply moves us we know the artist has painted from a deep, fearless connectedness, having given themselves fully to the subject matter. It is not about trying to interpret form, but rather, how to energetically engage in the process.
Nitza will assist students in creating a genuine relationship with their subject matter, whether painting the body, still life or a landscape. “It is very difficult to connect to another and even harder to stay close. Before you can make art alone in your studio it's a good foundation to begin in a group and share the joy and the struggle in the creation of art. In this workshop we will be using models, collage and tactile line making.
Nitza studied art in Jerusalem as well as at the National Gallery Art School, Melbourne. Her figurative work emerged during the women's movement in the 70s. She has exhibited her sculptures, drawings and prints over the last 20 years. Her recent solo exhibitions have been held at the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and Waywood Gallery, Byron Bay.
