Her work continues to be exhibited throughout Australia and abroad and has been curated in numerous institutional exhibitions. In 1977 Thomson's works was the subject of a major exhibition at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane and a survey exhibition of the artist's work was curated by Monash University, Melbourne in 1980.

Recipient of the Wynne Prize AGNSW in 1998, she also won the Geelong Contemporary Art Prize in 2002 and was awarded the Kedumba Drawing Award in 2005.

"Ann Thomson's large canvasses radiate confidence. Her work would stand out in the company of any European or American Abstract Expressionist painters. Executed in brilliant colours and vigorous lines, she is a force to be reckoned with." - Mary Rose Beaumont, London Arts Review.
