Artist Profile: Camilla Connolly

Camilla Connolly

What is before my eyes, what exists in my life in its simplest and easiest form, is often the best subject matter. And, what I value most in my life is also always the best subject matter. A painting of my husband, a painting of my son, the creeks and fields and the landscape out the back of the Tweed Valley, out the back near Limpinwood or Byrrill Creek and the Border Ranges. My journey is always the search for my mark” and the shedding of influences in that search and process.

Artist statement – Camilla Connolly

Camilla Connolly was born in Sydney. She currently lives and works from her home based studio in Murwillumbah, NSW.
In her recent work, Connolly has been focusing on the local landscape of the Tweed and she is presently working on a series that incorporates ideas of time and memory, using the landscape as the body. She continues to develop both the formal and expressionist elements that have driven her work over the past three years. Increasingly, Connolly has sought a reconsideration of the modernist principles that underpin a sophisticated painting practice. The result is a continually developing body of work that is founded on an integrity of vision and a careful and honest balance between form and content.

Connolly's work is generating increasing interest and is held in private collections throughout Australia as well as in London, France and New York.
